Sourdough Discard: Nothing Goes to Waste
The part nobody warns you about with sourdough is the discard — the cup of bubbly starter you pour off before each feeding so your jar doesn't stage a revolt and climb out onto the counter.

A Horse Named Cassie
Yesterday, we're standing around in the field waiting on the farrier, the way you do, and Morgan, on a whim— who is whimmy in the truest sense of the word, the kind of person who does the thing the second the thing occurs to her — just hops up on Cassie bareback. No saddle. No plan. Twenty-nine-year-old horse, three years off, halter and lead and a rider going purely on muscle memory.

Seven Roosters, twenty-two days, and a lot of math.
Sunday's butcher day produced 272 ounces of ground raw dog food from seven roosters — heads off, intestines and vents out, everything else through the grinder. Bone, organ, muscle. We keep the good stuff.

The great rabbit tractor incident, aka: Why I'm not an engineer.
Today I thought: what if I just tipped the cage a little, so all six kits slid to the high side, and then I dragged it across the grass with nothing under their feet to catch? Genius. Efficient. The kind of innovation that wins awards.

Dragon Eggs
Six eggs, six colors, one set of grandkids who are deep in their Rescue Riders era.
Tonight Morgan walked up holding these stunnin' eggs. Pale green, two creams, one deep chocolate-brown, one milk-chocolate, and a speckled rust-red one in the middle that looks like it was hand-painted by someone. "Dragon eggs," she says, and grins, because the kids are losing their minds over Rescue Riders lately and every green/red/blue egg in the coop has been promoted to dragon status thi

A Beautiful Day on the Farm
Today was one of those beautiful days that fills me with gratitude. ❤️ Tommy and I are working hard to build this farm and raise our kids here, and while the work is tough, it’s also so valuable, important, and tangible. I can’t imagine a better place to raise my babies. And of course, I’m grateful for the brimming milk pails—thanks to our dairy goats for their daily generosity. 🐐 #thechattygoat #dairygoats #goats #homesteadmama #mittenhomestead

Matilda's Daughters
Pickle's growing beautifully Friendly ears and curious snoots keep photobombing every picture! It’s tough to get a clean shot when the does are this affectionate. I’ve especially loved watching Pickle grow—she’s Cuke’s full sister and already looks so much like her. Her depth is showing beautifully, and I feel so grateful for these two does (plus Petunia) carrying on Matilda’s legacy. #thechattygoat #dairygoats #goats #mittenhomestead #homesteaddairy
