have you herd?

Homesteading with Dairy Goats

Homesteading isn't all Instagram-worthy sunrises and perfectly posed farm animals; though we get plenty of those moments too.

It's muddy boots, 5 AM milking schedules, and figuring out what to do when your best doe decides to kid during a snowstorm.

"Homesteading with Dairy Goats", tells you the whole story, not just the pretty parts.

After years of fielding questions from aspiring goat owners who'd read fluffy guides that glossed over the realities, I knew there had to be a better way. You deserve to know what you're really getting into; the incredible highs, the challenging lows, and everything in between. This isn't a book that will make goat keeping sound easy. It's a book that will make you successful at it.

Morgan captures both the heart and head of a small dairy goat operation as beautifully as anyone who has ever tackled this subject.”

goat milk + sheep tallow soaps + lotions

Seasonal scents are available!

Lilac (smells just like the Mackinac Island Lilac Festival!) as well as Gardener's Grit, a fresh new bar scented with lemongrass and rosemary. Gardener's Grit is perfectly textured with walnut hulls and orange peel to scrub that stubborn dirt off your hands after a productive day in the garden, or grease from your favorite mechanic's. Think GOJO soap, but all natural.

We also have a new soap, Coffee + Cocoa Butter, available. Real, freshly ground coffee makes for a wonderful exfoliant in this bar.Note: Oat + Honey is no longer made with pumice, so if you are looking for an exfoliating bar, Coffee + Cocoa Butter, or Gardener's Grit are your best options.

Unscented with Rose Clay, Oat + Honey, Rosemary + Mint, Lavender + Chamomile, Cashmere, and Charcoal Bar are all back in stock.

We milk our small herd of goats each morning, by hand. Goat milk makes up the majority of our lotion recipe. It's full of fabulous essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals that work wonders to moisturize all skin types, from oily to dry, and everything in between.

We also add tallow, rendered from our own herd of 100% grassfed sheep, or from Hidden Creek Farm's 100% grassfed beef. Tallow is a wonderful ingredient that has been used in skincare for thousands of years. It is readily absorbed by our own skin and replenishes and rebuilds it at the cellular level. Tallow, especially from grassfed animals, is also high in vitamins that have been linked to reducing wrinkles!

Finally, we add pastured pork lard, cocoa butter, vitamin e oil, an emulsifying wax, stearic acid, preservative (optiphen), and fragrance oils or essential oils (unless unscented). These are sourced from Brambleberry, a company with high standards and the highest quality ingredients.

Our lotions are free from all yucky ingredients! They're clean and safe and we are so proud of that fact!

I first got the smaller size of this unscented lotion on a trip to Northport. I use it on my face and hands, and it's so rich and healing. I ordered a larger size, because I don't ever want to run out!

Katie H.

LOVE!! From the packaging to the soap bars themselves, everything is so cute! The scents are amazing, and the soaps leave our skin feeling so refreshed and smooth! Thank you and Happy milking to the Chatty Herd! -Katie
