From Homestead to Homegrown Products
Hello, and welcome to The Chatty Goat!
We're Morgan and Tommy, a husband-and-wife team raising three children and a bustling farm in Southern Michigan. Our journey into homesteading began in 2017, but Morgan's life with goats started years earlier — in 2013, with a couple of does found through her local community.
Over the next decade she traded up, learned hard, expanded the land, and built the herd into what it is today: a healthy, productive herd of Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian goats. Our business is named after one of those Nigerian Dwarfs — the lovely and charismatic Chatty.
The real inspiration for our products came from our family. With three little ones who have sensitive skin, we were constantly looking for gentle, nourishing solutions. Morgan began crafting soaps and lotions right here on the farm using our animals' milk and tallow. We were tired of the unpronounceable chemicals in commercial products and wanted something truly clean and safe — for our children and for ourselves.
The Book
Morgan's decade of hands-on experience led her to author "Homesteading with Dairy Goats" (Sawdust Publishing, 2024) — a 151-page, serious guide to building a healthy, resilient herd.
The book carries a foreword from Joel Salatin of Polyface Farm, written after Morgan spoke with him at a Polyface women's conference in 2023 and shared her vision for her land. It's a guide that doesn't pretend goat keeping is easy — it's a guide written to help you become successful at it.
Morgan has also appeared on the Beyond Labels podcast with Joel Salatin and Sina McCullough, Ph.D., talking through the real mechanics of dairy goat management — why "goaty" milk is almost always a sign of mismanagement, how to actually keep clever goats fenced, and why a goat can be full and still nutritionally starved.
From Our Herd to Your Home
A Harmony of Earth & Animals
Our philosophy is simple: we believe in the harmonious relationship between our family, our land, and our animals. Everything we do is guided by a commitment to integrity and respect. We are passionate about using every part of the animals we raise — a practice we see as the highest way to honor their life.
Our Goats — Our herd of Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian goats provides the rich milk that forms the base of all our products. Their milk is naturally A2A2 and naturally homogenized — sweet, clean, and never "goaty." We hand-milk daily and support the herd with a cafeteria-style mineral program, so each animal can take exactly the copper, cobalt, kelp, or phosphorus she needs through the season. Well-managed goats make better milk, and better milk makes better soap.
Our Sheep — Our flock of Shetland sheep provides nourishing sustenance for our family and a source of incredible grass-fed tallow, rich in vitamins and minerals and remarkably gentle on the skin. It's the perfect partner to our goat's milk. We use every part of the animal, and we waste nothing.
This deep connection to our farm allows us to create products that are truly special — gentle enough for a baby's sensitive skin, yet powerful enough to soothe a sunburn or calm a toddler's eczema. We've learned firsthand that nature provides the best ingredients.

About the Author
Morgan Michaluk has raised dairy goats since 2013 and specializes in Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian dairy goats.
She manages a year-round herd of 18 does and 4 bucks at her farm in Southern Michigan, with 4–5 does kidding each season to maintain a steady milk supply.
She is the author of Homesteading with Dairy Goats (Sawdust Publishing, 2024, ISBN 979-8-9899550-6-0, foreword by Joel Salatin) and has appeared on the Beyond Labels podcast with Joel Salatin and Sina McCullough, Ph.D.
She crafts all Chatty Goat soaps and lotions by hand using milk and tallow from her own animals.
Speaking, Teaching & Homestead Stewardship
Morgan’s work with dairy goats extends beyond the barn. She is also an educator and speaker who teaches practical, responsible livestock management to homesteaders who want to do things well — not just romantically.
In 2026, Morgan completed her third goat-focused speaking and demonstration engagement at the Mitten Homesteaders Conference in Odessa, Michigan, where she taught a live goat butchery demonstration. The class addressed one of the most difficult but necessary realities of dairy goat stewardship: dairy animals must be bred to produce milk, and responsible herd management requires a thoughtful, humane plan for the kids that are born.
Morgan teaches from experience, not theory. Her approach is calm, practical, and deeply respectful of the animal. She helps new and growing homesteaders understand that good stewardship includes the whole life cycle: breeding, kidding, milking, health, nutrition, culling decisions, meat use, and honoring the animals by wasting as little as possible.
